Avalon began as a dream while Sherry Oates, originally studying to become a school teacher, found herself being called in a different direction. Not yet even knowing what was about to unfold, the young teacher left Texas to find a world rich in beauty and history in Tennessee. This is where she settled, moving into a cottage just outside downtown Nashville.

The home studio was lovingly restored, so that natural north light filled the big open space. Eventually, a barn was built to house restoration work. It was here, in this place she called Avalon, that Sherry began her journey to become an established portrait artist and art conservator.
